Capex planning
Capex planning is the process of planning and controlling spending on long-lived assets such as equipment, facilities, and technology, from the initial request through approval, purchase, and the depreciation that carries the cost onto the income statement. It covers deciding which projects to fund, tracking committed and actual spend against the plan, and keeping depreciation and cash timing current in the financial plan.
Done well, it gives the CFO a capital plan that ties to the general ledger, so board conversations about capital allocation start from numbers everyone can trace.
